Successful LVM-3 launch by ISRO using OneWeb
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has been making significant strides in the area of commercial launches. One of the major achievements in this direction has been the successful launch of the OneWeb satellite constellation, which was carried out by ISRO's Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III (GSLV-MkIII) rocket in December 2021.
The OneWeb constellation is designed to provide high-speed internet services to remote and underserved regions across the globe. With the successful launch of 36 satellites, the total number of OneWeb satellites in orbit has increased to 146. The successful launch of OneWeb has not only added to the global internet infrastructure but also firmly established ISRO's capabilities in commercial launches.
ISRO has been actively pursuing commercial launches in recent years to tap into the growing demand for satellite-based services. The agency has also been working on reducing the cost of satellite launches by developing reusable launch vehicles, which could significantly lower the cost of space launches in the future.
In addition to OneWeb, ISRO has also signed contracts with various private companies for commercial launches. The agency has launched satellites for foreign countries such as the United States, Israel, and Singapore, among others.
The success of ISRO's commercial launches has also helped the agency in generating revenue, which can be used for further research and development. With its increasing reputation in commercial launches, ISRO is expected to play a significant role in the global space market in the coming years.
